PublishingGame.com and Peanut Butter and Jelly Press are delighted to announce the “I Love My Local Library Because...” contest to remind people how important libraries are to them and their communities—Because search engines are no substitute for a helpful librarian; because a skillful librarian turns information into knowledge; because choosing just the right book to nurture a child's curiosity is an art.

Each month we're going to give a $50 gift certificate (for use at a local independent bookstore) if you uncover the winning answer, the best patron response (in 15 or fewer words) to "I Love My Local Library Because..." (one new national winner every month, starting in June.)

It's an easy contest to do. You don't even need to sign up with us. Just display the contest poster (415KB, 81sec download via dialup, 2.5sec via cable/DSL.) Harvest the names and responses any way you like—have your patrons write their response on their business cards, on small scraps of paper, whatever. Each month, pick a finalist from your library (Have fun with it!) Then mail/email/fax/carrier pigeon us your selection. From the pool of finalists, we'll select a monthly national winner. (Then next month, start over again.)

We'll send out a press release to the national media announcing each month's winner, and mentioning the library involved.

We hope you have fun with it. We hope it generates a lot of interest and brings in some new patrons. And we look forward to meeting all of you—at Book Expo, PLA, and local tradeshows this year.
